The conversation inspired me to do a deeper dive into what makes a super successful crowdfunding campaign! I came up with my list of 10 Steps for a Successful Pledge Music Campaign.
These steps helped me raised over $17K and reach 144% of my goal. I hope you find some good value in these too. I’m always available for design and coaching sessions too. If you are getting ready to launch I definitely suggest working with someone to help strategize for you begin!

1. KNOCKOUT VIDEO INTRO
This is not the place to cut costs. Your intro video needs to look professional, be insanely captivating, and well thought out. Give us all you’ve got! Protip: Don’t make it all about you. Make it about your fans!
2. KICK THE FEAR OF FAILURE MINDSET
It’s tough to put yourself out there and face the fear of rejection. Not everyone is going to be on board. You must kick the fear of failure to have a successful campaign. Keep on keeping on…
3. FAN CENTRIC CONTENT UPDATES
It’s not all about you, baby! Build your community, make your updates about your fans, the experience you offer, be honest and authentic. Give your fans a reason to support you past being, “just a fan.”
4. CLEAR CALLS TO ACTION
Don’t make us work to find out how to pledge! Get a smart url and track your shares and clicks. Make it easy for your fans to share content and spread the word. Be specific in your asks!
This shit is long and tiring and you are going to get burnt out. You need a team to delegate tasks to along the way. Draw up a 14, 30, 90-day plan for your campaign and delegate as much as you can.
You’ve got to be active IRL during your campaign or you are setting yourself up to fail. Reach out to your peers and ask them if they’d be willing to share. Go out to shows, talk to other bands. This is not the time to indulge your introverted self.
7. CREATIVE AND RESEARCHED EXCLUSIVES
More than likely your fans have previously pledged on another campaign. Get creative with your exclusives and offerings. Research what your fans would actually LOVE to own. See what other artist are offering. Do the work.
8. CAPTIVATING DESIGN
Just like your video intro, your campaign, social media, and marketing brand needs to be on point. Work with a designer to make sure that your entire presentation is beautifully branded and engaging. Be sure to design postcards to give to fans in person too!
9. LAUNCH AND ADVERTISING PLAN
You wouldn’t release an album without a plan so don’t launch your campaign without one either. Build up to the launch, consider targeted social media ads, make a plan of attack. Protip: Hire a coach to help with this too!
10. HAVE FUN
At the end of the day, remind yourself how incredibly lucky you are to be able to make music! Don’t take yourself too seriously. The more fun you have, the more fun your fans will have, and the more success you will achieve!
